Getting to know Lazise

One of the main reason that incentivized the turistic growth of Lazise at the end of the 50s was its climate: that very same mild and pleasant climate that makes it so inviting fot turists nowadays and one of the most attractive holiday destinations of the Veronese riviera of Lake Garda.

The mildness of the climate also favours the growth of the well-known fruit trees and rivergards which create geometric patterns on the inland hills. And claim the merit of producing prime quality wines.
The agricoltural and food production of this area is the highlight of delicious tasting itineraries and in the well-known restaurants of Lazise you can relish the typical specialities of the traditional gastronomy as well as dishes of the international cusine.

This pleasant lake resort is also the stage of many cultural and leisure time events. During the summer season, the Castle, the town greens and the beautiful gardens of the numerous villas which characterize the surrounding territory.
Play host to classical conerts, pop music events, exhibitions, cabaret shows and fashion parades.

The lakeside promenade is ideal for going jogging or for a typical walk and the cycle track along the lake shores links Lazise with the nearby towns of Peschiera del Garda, Bardolino & Garda.
Besides the clear waters of the lake and its 9 km lake shore are ideal for those who love swimming and all sorts of water sports.

Lazise is rich in history and historical monuments, some of which yet today distinguish it for its medieval aspect.
By hiring motor-boats, that do not necessarily need a licence, you can tour the town from the lake waters and enjoy views of picturesque corners from an unusual prospective.
The prehistoric origins of the town can be proved by lake dwelling rests and other findings in nearby towns and suggesst that there had been settings in Lazise also during the Roman period. However, it is not until the Early Middle Ages that the origins of the town of Lazise can be confirmed.
The first circle of walls dates back to the above mentioned period and the only part of it stull standing is the Torre Campanaria: today it belongs to the cemetry grounds and has become a private funerary chapel.
During the Holy Roman Empire, in 1077 under Henry IV's protection, Lazise become a fortified village, Castel included: it resulted in a particular defensive system which was later integrated, first by the Scaligeri family and then by the Viscontis.
In 1405 it ended up under the supervision of the Serenissima and become the strongpoint of the commercial trading that two centuries later estabilished the economical and social development of town.

The most representative monument bolonging to this period is the Dogana Veneta: this ancient building, directly overlooking the lake, has been brought back to excellent condition by accurate restoration and now dominates and characterizes the panorama of the historical town centre with its attractive central square and small point.
